Diesel cylinder head brief introduction

Diesel engine cylinder head is an important engine components, located in the upper part of the engine block,

through the cylinder head bolts in accordance with a certain tightening torque fastened to the body, with the piston,

cylinder liner together constitute the combustion space. This combustion space is the place where the diesel

engine carries out combustion to do work, therefore, the diesel engine cylinder head plays a vital role in the engine.

The design and manufacture of diesel engine cylinder head need to meet certain requirements and standards.

First, the cylinder head must be able to withstand high temperature and high pressure, because the temperature

and pressure inside the combustion chamber are very high. Secondly, the cylinder head must have a certain degree of

wear resistance and fatigue resistance to cope with the long-term operation of the engine. In addition, the cylinder head

needs to have a certain degree of stiffness and strength to maintain its stability and reliability in the engine.

Diesel engine cylinder head is generally made of alloy cast iron or gray cast iron material,

These materials have the advantages of high strength, high abrasion resistance and corrosion resistance.

On the top of the cylinder head, there is usually a camshaft bearing hole machined for mounting the camshaft.

Inside the cylinder head, there are also intake channels, exhaust channels, cooling water chambers and lubricating

oil orifices, etc. These channels and holes are designed to meet the engine’s intake and exhaust, cooling and lubrication needs.

STEP 1

         

Cylinder Head Mould Preparation

The process begins with the creation of a precision cylinder head mould. This mould serves as the foundation for producing cylinder heads with consistent and accurate specifications.

STEP 2

         

Cast&smelting

Molten casting material is poured into the mould, and it undergoes a solidification and cooling process to take on the initial shape of the cylinder head.

STEP 3

         

Rough Machining of Cylinder Head

After casting and solidification, the cylinder head undergoes rough machining. This includes processes such as milling, drilling, and turning to bring the cylinder head closer to its design specifications in terms of size and shape.

STEP 4

         

Heat Treatment

The rough-machined cylinder head is subjected to heat treatment to enhance its hardness and wear resistance. This critical step ensures that the cylinder head meets the required mechanical properties and industry standards.

STEP 5

         

Precision Machining

Following heat treatment, the cylinder head undergoes precision machining. This involves processes like milling and grinding to further improve the cylinder head’s accuracy and surface quality. Precision machining is crucial to achieve the desired dimensions and fine-tune its performance.

STEP 6

         

Surface Treatment:

After precision machining, the cylinder head goes through surface treatment, which may involve methods such as coating, plating, or other processes to enhance corrosion resistance and aesthetics. This step improves the cylinder head’s durability and appearance.

STEP 7

         

High-Pressure Cleaning

Ensuring the cleanliness of the cylinder head is essential for proper functionality. High-pressure cleaning is employed to remove any residues, contaminants, or particles, thus meeting stringent cleanliness and performance standards.

STEP 8

         

Inspection and Testing

Quality control is a critical part of the process. The cylinder heads undergo comprehensive inspection to assess their appearance, dimensions, and performance. This includes rigorous airflow testing to verify that the cylinder heads meet specified requirements.
